Parenting support

As a parent myself, I understand the restless nights and tension when the family goes sideways, or a crisis with school, or the impossible amount of dishes and fights about dishes. I understand the judgment from family, friends, and the larger culture. I get it because I live it: parenting is challenging.

Parenting can be difficult on another level, too. Parenting can bring up painful parts of our past. These generational cycles can stop, and they can change.

My Experience and Approach

Along with training in family and child therapy, I have a masters in early childhood education with a focus on children with disabilities. I taught for 13 years, trained in Reggio-inspired education, and am experienced in RIE guidance methods. I supported numerous parents to guide their children in more alignment with their values. I worked with children experiencing a variety of disability or development differences, including social and emotional complexities and neurodiversity.

My framework centers on seeing children as whole, complex, intentional people, who desire connection and support from those who care for them. It is also informed by the complexities of power and mutuality in relationships, and how harmful elements of the larger culture enter our family lives and hurt those dearest to us. It is informed by child development theory, attachment research, family systems theory and the wonderful work of the many teachers and trainers encountered on my journey.
